Forlorn Hope Games: Cavalcade Somali Pirates Reviewed!

Today we will take a closer look at the Forlorn Hope Games 28mm Somali pirates which were originally produced by the American company Cavalcade Games. The transition of these nice 28mm ranges not only saves European wargamers postage and custom costs but has also allowed the expansion of some of the ranges as much pieces were never released before. If I recall correctly these miniature were sculpted by the talented Leandro Ventic.

The miniatures

The Somali Pirate range exists out of three different packs of 28mm metal pirates, so we will take a look at these three packs and their excellent content. The first pack contains four pirates at ease or guard and are armed with machineguns and an RPG. My favorite of the bunch is the RPG-armed fellow in the middle right as he has so much character and I really like his pose. The only small issue I have with these miniature is the size of the machineguns but note I'm not a weapons expert!

The second pack contains four pirates in more dynamic poses such as firing and at the ready. As you can see in this pictures and all the pictures, these miniatures are well-casted in white metal and don't show any flash. Next to this I'm also of the opinion that these miniatures are the best Somali pirates available on the market and next to this they are incredibly well-priced especially when buying the huge pirate deal.

The thrid and last packs also contains four pirates, what a surprise! This miniature packs contains three pirated armed with assault rifles and one fellow calling on his cellphone. remember the excellent movie Black Hawk Down where some kids are alerting the local militias with a cellphone when they see the American choppers.

The scale

To give you an idea of the size of these miniatures I have included the following pictures with miniatures from different manufacturers. My apologies for the rather odd mix of painted miniatures but I have finally managed to paint some more miniatures! As you can see they are slightly taller but when you vile the attached bases a bit, they fit in nicely.

The conclusion

As you can see these miniatures are of excellent quality and are all unique sculptures. The packs supply you with a nice ragtag warband of pirates armed with either assault rifles or rocket propelled grenade launchers. These miniatures can easily be used to represent the many Somali warlord militiamen in Black Hawk Down and the dreaded Somali pirates.

These miniatures can now be bought for £8.00 a pack. Interested in these nice modern miniatures from Forlorn Hope Games? Take a look here and when you decide to make a purchase make sure to mention our review on Wargames News and Terrain.
