Warlord Games: Tabletop Workshop Modular Castle Re-Released and Plastic Renedra Castle Comparison

Warlord Games has launched the pre-order for the Tabletop Workshop plastic modular castle. Some may remember the short existence of Tabletop Workshop and their range of hard plastic buildings including towers and medieval houses.

We actually reviewed the medieval buildings here on Wargame News and Terrain, which were also re-released by Warlord Games. These were quite nice model kits which could easily be disassembled for transport and storage.

Available to pre-order this week is the huge new plastic castle kit – ‘The Citadel’ – the ultimate centrepiece for any 28mm gaming table! This kit contains three wall sections, four towers and a gatehouse – allowing you to create either a fully enclosed rectangular-footprinted castle – or an impressive defensive wall. Price £190.00 outside UK - £175.00 inside UK.

The kit is modular – meaning that you can purchase additional wall sections and tower kits which can be built to add more height to create even more impressive and imposing structures – and craft your own personalised stronghold! Further kits – including separate walls, towers and gate houses are due to become available very soon – so keep watching the Warlord Newsletter for further details!

Edit 12/04/2016: Looks like the Warlord Games castle is now also being produced by Renedra but was originally designed and produced by the company behind Tabletop Workshop being Enigma Design Services Ltd. Sure there was a website as I visted it during the release of their buildings and castle but it must have been taken offline.

Edit 13/04/2016: Finally we (Renedra) would like to clarify that we are not the manufacturers of the Warlord Games Citadel, that's someone else's work - reason we found out that we were being credited with it was when we were asked if the round towers were the same height and were we doing a combination deal? We have contacted our mates at Warlord and they are amending their details on their website.

Not sure if the Warlord Games castle will match the splendid quality of the upcoming modular plastic castle set as that one looks superb and is designed and tooled by the best plastic wargame company in the United Kingdom, Renedra!

We are also going to do for a limited period a couple of special 'Renedra Castle Deals' on our webstore and at Salute - the Standard Castle (consists of 5 x 3 Tier Towers, 1 x 4 Tier Gate House and 8 Boxes of Wall Sections) cost if bought separately £310 but as a 'Standard Castle Deal - £250', we are also adding the Large Castle Deal which has 7 x 3 Tier Towers, 1 x 4 Tier Gate House and 8 Boxes of Wall Sections cost if bought separately £382 but as a 'Large Castle Deal - £290'. Final sizes for these Castle Deals are - Large Castle 86cm frontage and 80cm side - the Standard is 86cm frontage and 65.5cm sides. Individual kits to further expand your castle will also be available and note that the tower sprues include some rather nice gargoyles!

Looks like the Renedra Standard Castle is around £60.00 more expensive (depending on location) than the Warlord Games The Citadel. But looking at the available information contains at least one more tower and more wall sections. Not sure how these compare in size but if I needed a wargame castle I would personally still go for the Renedra castle as I more like the look and details despite the higher price tag.
